Data Analysis and computing facilities are provided for Genomic Analysis and Technology Core users with support from the Biotechnology Computing Facility (BCF).

The BCF computer lab located in Keating 111D is comprised of several Windows computers. The laboratory provides access to desktop-based sequence and image analysis and processing applications.  To get an account on the BCF lab computers, fill out the form at the BCF home page.  To schedule time on the lab computers, use the BCF Scheduler.  In addition to the Data Analysis lab machines, BCF provides free accounts on a UNIX server for access to a variety of Open Source and locally-developed software.  The Accounts form mentioned previously may also be used to apply for a UNIX/BioDesk account, and the server can be accessed from anywhere through the BioDesk Viewer application.

BCF-supported Software includes:

* Software for sequence alignment: CLUSTALW and HMMER; FAKtory, Phred, Phrap, RepeatMasker for fragment assembly are available along with many public domain utilities.

* Softworx Tracker Microarray Spot-Finding package.

* Microarray Data Analysis Packages e.g. R/BioConductor and other academic software packages running on two workstations.

* Access to Oligo 6 software.

* Publication programs such as GeneDoc and BoxShade to annotate, shade and make publication quality output from sequences.

Free Services Offered:

* One hour of Basic User training for all software packages offered by the Biotechnology Computing Facility

* Management of large scale sequencing data, from electropherograms to assigning internal accession numbers, annotation and creating web sites to run custom BLAST/FASTA searches with internal data.
